On August 13th, 2008, Keith W. Moon, our founder, was fatally injured while riding his bike home from work. His presence will be profoundly missed at Moon Woodworking. One of Keith's many strengths was as a talent scout; he surrounded himself with talented, driven individuals which he could entrust to fulfill his vision. The Moon Woodworking Team is confident in continuing that vision. Keith will be missed because of what he saw in all of us, what strengths he could utilize and weaknesses he could embolden. The compassion and love he poured into each member of the Moon Woodworking family will continue to be built into the Moon Woodworking tradition.

Moon Woodworking was started by Keith Moon in 1982 shortly after graduating from California State University at Humboldt. The business was originally established in Benicia, California, a small artisan community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Located on the Carquinez Straits in the north bay and having a surplus of cheap warehouse space Benicia attracted many arts and Crafts people in the 70’s and 80’s and provided fertile ground for a fledgling woodworking business. Over the next 12 years Moon Woodworking served high end clientele in the Napa/Sonoma wine country, Marin County, San Francisco and the East Bay. In 1994, looking for a lifestyle change, Keith relocated his family and business to Bend, Oregon.

Arriving in Bend to a burgeoning new home market made that transition easy. An early association with local builders in Broken Top, Awbrey Butte, Crosswater, and Aspen Lakes has helped establish Moon Woodworking in the Bend Market as a premier custom cabinetmaker.

Moon Woodworking has focused it’s energy over the last 9 years on being a contractor’s cabinetmaker, helping clients of custom homebuilders create their dream kitchens, baths and living spaces and giving contractors a turn key product from design to installation. Applying the sophisticated designs of the San Francisco Bay Area to the north west contemporary craftsman style or the rustic lodge style of Central Oregon has made for a good match. Moon Woodworking uses many of the local northwest woods like vertical grain fir, ponderosa pine and red alder as well as other hardwoods such as cherry, maple and hickory. Combined with a large variety of door styles and decorative finishes Moon Woodworking creates a look that fits well in Central Oregon.

2003 has seen the addition of Kitchen Craft Cabinets of Canada , Precision Counter Tops of Tualitin, Oregon and Oregon Closet Systems of Bend to the product offering. Combined into a 2000 sq ft design show room Moon Woodworking hopes to better meet the needs the homeowner designing that dream kitchen.

Over the years we have grown up with Bend and now have over a dozen cabinet makers, finishers and installers. With our 4 designers we are now a full service kitchen design center and cabinet fabricator offering full service to contractors, designers and homeowners. We are able to handle the large multi-unit projects but still enjoy the entertainment center or custom dining room hutch. We like what we do and take pride in our work.
